Today’s Church

I have just been reading an excellent article that shows the situation of the world today.  Please read it on the link below.

It points out how the overwhelming influence of the social media has thrown into broad daylight the evils of society described 2000 years ago by Paul:

2 Timothy 3:1   But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.

The author states:

“Knowing good and evil have always been part of the world should provide very little solace because the fact is….the Bible verse above describes a moment in time when godlessness will increase exponentially. This is a description of the conditions of the world in the last days, but most importantly…..the conditions of the human heart. A realistic look at our world will attest the fact that godlessness is rampant and has reached epidemic proportions.”

But the main point that I see in the 2 Tim 3:1 quote is that this situation is describing the Church of the last days.  Paul is warning Timothy of the situation in the Churches today.

This is not just a description of an immoral and loveless society at some point of time:  it is a description of many nominal Christians in the Church today.

“Lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God … and … having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power.”  How many of our Churches are filled with those types of people?  And how much influence are they having on those who are not yet corrupted?

It is all too easy to share in Church family activities, music-driven worship and Bible-free Bible Studies sitting in comfortable chairs without for a moment considering the warnings specified so many times to all of us.

I post this blog considering full well my own responsibility in this regard.  Jesus told us that teachers will be judged more harshly than others because we may not be practising what we preach.  None of us is perfect, but a conscious avoidance of sin and frequent repentance is necessary, according to Paul.  I hope you understand my motivation in this regard -if you think I am pointing the finger I am actually pointing a torch at Paul’s statement in order to throw light on it for all of us to read.

Anyway, I hope the link below speaks to you.

God bless your service for Him.
